The Gospel According To Fr Michael Whelan- Sydney priest does away with gospel reading, provides instead a lecture on being true to one's self, and his prescription for self-awareness and acceptance

 by Ganesh Sahathevan

The parish. priest at St Patrick's Church in the Sydney CBD has introduced an innovation into the usual practise of the Catholic Mass, replacing the Gospel reading with a lecture on his own "A Spiritual Exercise, by Michael Whelan SM".  "Spiritual Exercise" is presented as a method of self-discovery, and acceptance of one's self.

The recording below of Whelan;s homily for the day, the 5th Sunday in Ordinary time, 5th February 2023. is not what was presented at the 12 PM Mass on the day.

Whelan is Australian born, and educated. well able to understand the Catholic Church's order of Mass.
