In 2014 the Chief Justice led a group of judicial officers in what can be regarded as public endorsement of the Muslim Legal Network's publication that Peter Dutton, then Minister for Immigration , now Home Affairs ,objected to:

At the Auburn Gallipoli Mosque Sydney, Chief Justice of NSW Honourable Tom Bathurst, QC attended an Islamic service to mark the opening of the 2014 Law Term
The Muslim Legal Network is doing Great unique services for the Legal System of Australia. MLN New South Wales is registered body for Legal Professionals. They are holding every year AGM for election and select their office bearers. This year’s elected team are: President - Mr Bilal Rauf, Vice-President - Mr Zaid Khan, Treasurer - Mr Zaahir Edries, Secretary - Mr Tarik Ayoush and Executive Committee Members are: Ms Rabea Khan, Mr Aziz Abbas, Mr Imran Khan, Mr Mahmoud Hawila, Mr Khodr Ghantours, Mr Kamran Khalid, Mr Hisham Kamib and Mr Rayan Marabani.
The Muslim Legal Network, in conjunction with the Committee of Auburn Gallipoli Mosque arranges an Islamic service to mark the opening of the 2014 Law Term. The service was held from 6.30pm to 7:30pm on Thursday 20 February 2014 at the Auburn Gallipoli Mosque.
The service was started with a Quran recitation by the Imam of the Auburn Gallipoli Mosque .Solicitor Ms Rabea Khan Presenting English Translations of the Holy Quran. The President of Muslim Legal Network Mr. Bilal Rauf was MC of the evening.Bilal Rauf welcome all guests  and thanks them for attending this historical event.
Famous Islamic Scholar Dr Mohamad Abdalla was keynote speaker. His speech was on one very important subject “Concept of Justice in Islam". Dr Abdalla is an Associate Professor at the School of Humanities at Griffith University. He is regarded as one of Australia's most respected Muslim leaders, combining the roles of academic scholar, public intellectual and religious leader. He was a panelist on the ABC television program Q&A earlier this year discussing the topic ‘Love and Faith'.
In concluding the service, Dr Abdalla lead a prayer seeking that the Australian legal system be characterised by justice and that those who exercise responsibilities in connection with, or participate in, the Australian legal system, be blessed with right guidance and the ability to act justly.
The Function was attended by The Honourable Tom Bathurst, QC Chief Justice of NSW, Judges Supreme Court of New South Wales, Members of Judges office, Legal Practitioners, Diplomats, Journalists, Community Leaders and Attorney General of New South Wales Honourable Greg Smith MP, Member for Liverpool Shadow Attorney General Hon. Paul Lynch MP and dignitaries.
