Bukit Aman NCID director Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh (centre) with the seized drugs during a press conference in Johor Baru October 16, 2018. — Malaysian Police often go public with items they have seized, even after charges have been laid.

The reaction to MACC chief Lateefah Koya's press confierence where she brought to attention the Najib Tapes has drawn harsh criticism from some unexpected quarters.

From PM Mahathir's lawyer Haniff Kathri:
Haniff said Latheefa should have ordered the officer who received the nine audio clips to lodge a police report because it was not within the jurisdiction of the MACC to investigate criminal offence under the Penal Code.

"If indeed there were elements of other crime, it should be investigated under the Penal Code, and not the MACC Act," he said in a statement on Thursday.

"Fresh evidence, which the police have yet to investigate, should not be exposed publicly because it can adversely affect investigations and create negative public perception," he said.

The live broadcasting of recorded telephone conversations between parties claimed to be the former prime minister and others by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is improper and regrettable, says Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh.
He said in a statement on Thursday (Jan 9) that what MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya did could be seen as tantamount to a trial-by-media of those implicated in the recordings.
"No doubt, we all want to know and get to the bottom of what was allegedly said in the recordings, and whether or not the individuals involved are responsible for any offence which may have been committed, but that is the job of the courts, not the media, or for that matter, any agency investigating the individuals purportedly in said recordings.

Now,Malaysian Police routinely put on display what they have seized, even after charges have been laid. In this case all that Koya has done is to place in the public domain information that has come the MACC's way.

No charges have been laid,so it is hard to see what Kathri means by "fresh evidence".
As for Ramkarpal:"allegedly said","individuals purportedly in said recordings"? Najib has not denied anything, even if he was somewhat surprised by the fact his telephone calls were intercepted.
Rather than indulging in tht famous past time of prtending to be Federal Court judges, Ramkarpal especially, being an MP, ought to be more concerned by this statement that Koya made explaining her actions:
Kadir Jasin being a former pressman, ought to  understand the need to make matters public, and be more concerned with Koya's comncerns rather than indulge in this type of psuedo-academic commentary:

Jangan didedahkan untuk buat ribut dan sensasi saja.
Wajib siasat dan ambil tindakan. Kalau tidak orang tak percaya.
SPRM boleh hilang kewibawaan malah boleh dituduh buat fitnah.
Berkenaan dakwaan peranan Rosmah Mansor, saya langsung tidak hairan.
Saya berulang kali bagi amaran kepada Najib tentang peranan Rosmah sejak dia jadi Timbalan Perdana Menteri lagi.
Wallahuaklam.
