A climate emergency requires immediate action:Net zero migration including asylum seekers, insist that Indonesia spend Australian aid on preventing annual forest fires

by Ganesh Sahathevan

The insistence that there is a climtae emergency requires immediate action:Net zero migration for at lesst  the next 10 years, would be  a good place to start. After all, 2020 is supposed to be evidence that from now on, droughts will become more frequent.

That means water will be increasingly scarce, and a water restricted country cannot afford more people. As The Guardian puts it:

The only thing as certain as drought in Australia is the stupid call to build new dams.It may seem obvious, but building new dams doesn’t make it rain. Even if it does rain, we already have plenty of empty dams where the water can go.

The second mater that regquires immediate action, and which can be implemented immediately, is to insist that Indonesia spend  all Australian aid on preventing annual forest fires.
As the diagram below shows, the Indonesiam smog can directly affect Australia.

Smog flow from Sumatra to Malaysia in 1997The smog in 2019 was worse.

Additonally ,the windflow animation below shows no one in this region is safe from the annual Indonesian burning:

It makes no sense, given the climate emergency, to allow Indonesia to spend Australian aid money as it wishes.or on previously determined priorties. That money must be directred to preventing the annual fires.
