JobActive sub-contractor points finger at Renee Leon,DEEWR;Meanwhile NDIS funding being used to finance Olympus-Ability corporate exercise

by Ganesh Sahathevan

In a series of deals that would make even the more corrupt regimes in Africa blush, a JobActive contract awarded by the DEEWR's Renee Leon to a corporate shell, seems to have been "injected" into a not for profit organisation Ability Options, allowing a recently failed printer to rise from the ashes as something of a social entrepreneur.

As earlier reported the failed printer, one Fred Van Steel, has has no real experience in the job search and placement market. Now, compounding Olympus's lack of expertise is the resignation in late March of RAIFE ANDREW WATSON, chief executive and sales director of Adzuna Australia Pty,
The so-called sub-contacting of the JobActive contract by Olympus to Ability  has allowed Olympus's Fred Van Steel, to , it appears, effectively take management control of Ability (he is CEO).This could be described as some sort of reverse take-over, but a JobActive contract is not an asset like say, the printing machinery at Van Steel's failed Chippendale Printing, which was put into administration and then liquidated. A JobActive contract comes with a whole bundle of delegated powers, the essential powers likely to fall into that class of statutory powers that cannot be sub-delegated.

Yet, Van Steel and team happily exercise and enforce Centrelink like powers, threatening Centrelink clients with all sorts of financial consequences. Van Steel and Ability when questioned about their apparent misrepresentation of powers, have pointed the finger at Renee Leon , who they say approves of their work.

Meanwhile, Van Steel, having bagged some AUD 50 million out of Ms Leon's inexplicable generosity , has set his sights on NDIS funding. Ms Leon's contract expires at the end of this year,
and having not really done anything to meet the requirements of that contract, seems to have determined that dealing with the severely handicapped is probably a better way of enjoying Government funding. Publicity like the one below are becoming increasingly common, while any reference to job seeking increasingly rare.
Having used a JobActive contract to create and empire, NDIS funding will be vital to keep it going,at least until its sold off.

Welcome to the March edition of Able Cable. I trust you are all enjoying a busy and industrious start to 2016.

In this issue you will read about innovative stories from around our organisation – including our new community partnership with the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles NRL Club. This partnership marks an exciting new direction for us and highlights our interest in working with established like-minded organisations.
With the much anticipated NDIS roll out beginning in July across NSW, we are in the privileged position of being at the forefront of this ‘new world’, and currently support over 600 people in the Hunter trial site. The disability sector is changing fast to become a vibrant customer focused marketplace, and we are delighted to be able to share the experience and learnings we’ve gained in the Hunter to benefit all our participants, helping everyone prepare for the new NDIS program.
Pre-planning is essential to build that NDIS readiness – to ensure people are equipped to express their needs and gain access to the supports they require. Recently, we held three pre-planning events with our partner Open Minds in Townsville, working with a diverse mix of attendees in personalised round table sessions, to help them prepare for meeting with their NDIA planner.
Our employment division continues on their growth trajectory, and I am especially pleased to witness the success of the Ability Options | Olympus Solutions ‘Energise Model’; which continues to align with local employers to identify gaps in their employment needs and deliver work-ready, motivated employees. You can read more about ‘The Energise Model’ and its success in our Q Station story inside this issue.
As always, if you have any comments or ideas, feel free to contact me directly.
Warm regards
Fred JP Van Steel
Chief Executive Officer
