1 MDB and the Emir of Qatar: Al Jazeera expose means rescue will not happen

by Ganesh Sahathevan
It was recently reported that the Emir of Qatar is  coming to the rescue of 1MDB:

"I (Najib Razak) met the Emir of Qatar recently and he said he was interested to invest in the assets owned by 1MDB. This is an Islamic government itself that is interested.
"If people say the assets (of 1MDB) have no value, nobody would want to invest. They (Qatar) see that the assets can generate lucrative long term profits.
"If 1MDB is an insolvent entity I do not think that the Emir will invest.

Given that the Emir owns Al-Jazeera, the TV network that has implicated Najib and his confidante Razak Baginda in the murder of the Mongolian Altantuya Shaaribuu, can one still say with any confidence that the Emir or any part of his kingdom is likely to invest anything in Malaysia, let alone  in 1 MDB?

Probably not.
